My Investigation Idea for my Coursework.

 My investigation idea combines both language and technology with language and power. This is because I plan to look into the e-mails between teachers and their students and the language either use when going back and forth between the two. I will be using data from my own previous emails with tutors and also with permission, some teacher emails and also some other students emails so that i can pick out the different variations of language used in each. By looking into these emails, depending on context, I will be able to tell whether teachers and students use language with a certain amount of intimacy, whether Standard English is important or even if there is convergence between the two. Do teachers try to shift their register and dialect to that of the students to make them feel more comfortable? I will be looking into previous investigations to help with collecting data for my own investigation and once I have collected my results I can use them to compare between my results and that of someone else from a few years ago that did a similar investigation. I hope to find results proving my hypothesis that teachers and students do converge their language to create a little bit of intimacy and comfort between the two.
